Many countries demonstrated their cultural themes during the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Bogota, Colombia. Traditional Turkish Archery which is represented by Türkiye’s Committee has been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as 17th element of Türkiye.
“We are happy for our country and Turkish archery. Our journey which is started by collaboration of Türkiye’s Archers Foundation and our Ministry of Cultural and Tourism 3 years ago ended with a great success in Bogota, Colombia,” said World Ethnosport Confederation Board Member and President of Traditional Turkish Archery Foundation Cengiz Toksöz.
Together with UNESCO Turkish Permanent representative and Ministry of Culture and Tourism General Directorate of Research and Education, Turkish UNESCO National Committee, representatives from World Ethnosport Confederation and Turkish Traditional Archery Federation participated in the meeting.
In 2006, Türkiye became a party to the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which was announced in 2003.
