The World Ethnosport Union has been accredited as a non-governmental organization under UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The accreditation was approved during the 11th Session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 17–18 June 2026.

With the newly accredited NGOs, the number of Türkiye-based organizations accredited by UNESCO in the field of intangible cultural heritage has risen to 17. Türkiye has thus become the second country among 185 States Parties with the highest number of accredited NGOs in this field.

The World Ethnosport Union will continue its efforts at national and international levels to safeguard, promote and transmit traditional sports, games and cultural values to future generations.

This accreditation marks an important step in strengthening the international representation of the World Ethnosport Union’s work in the field of intangible cultural heritage.
