History

The Nomadic Mounted Spear and Sabre Duel is a martial arts competition designed to recreate historical combat practices from the 9th to 11th centuries. Rooted in the traditions of steppe warriors, this duel emphasizes historical accuracy by requiring participants to wear period-authentic clothing, use traditional weapons, and equip their horses with historically appropriate gear. These duels reflect the martial skills that nomadic warriors once relied upon for survival and warfare. The event provides a structured environment for participants to demonstrate their abilities while preserving and promoting ancient mounted combat techniques.

Rules

The duel takes place in a designated battle area, typically a paddock, and is supervised by a Chief Judge and Assistant Judges to ensure fairness and adherence to historical methods. Competitors engage in mounted competition using either a spear or a sabre, with valid strikes earning points.  Attacks to restricted zones such as the face or horse result in penalties, and simultaneous hits do not score. The fight continues until one competitor reaches five points. Strict rules govern the equipment and conduct of participants to maintain historical accuracy, ensuring that the competition remains both an authentic and disciplined representation of nomadic combat.
