Organized to honor the individuals, institutions, and organizations that contribute to traditional sports and games, the Traditional Sports Awards will be presented to those who were successful at contributing to the popularization of traditional sports this year. Awards will be handed out for such different categories as Academician, Young Athlete. Statesman, Traditional Sports Organization, and International Sponsor.
In previous years, awards were presented to individuals who’d made significant contributions worldwide. For example, names such as Kazakh academician Prof. Dr. Yelemes Alimkhanov, Kazakh athlete Zarina Saripova, and Romanian athlete Bogdan Alexandru Lupse received awards at the 5th Traditional Sports Awards, as well as institutional contributors such as the Qatar Society of Al Gannas and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). In addition, the Leadership Award was given to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Traditional Sports Awards will have great importance in terms of honoring those who’ve contributed to preserving traditional sports, to transferring cultural heritage to future generations, and to ensuring that these sports reach more people. The awards will be presented at the 7th Ethnosport Forum to be held in St. Petersburg on April 18-20, 2025.
