Cengiz Toksöz has been re-elected as the President of the Turkish Traditional Archery Federation during the federation's general assembly. Toksöz, who is also a Board Member of the World Ethnosport Confederation, emphasized that their primary goal is to preserve traditional archery and pass it on to future generations.
"Our aim is not just the bow and arrow; we want to pass on the spiritual power behind this sport to our youth," said Toksöz. He noted the growing interest in traditional Turkish archery, with the number of registered athletes approaching 22,000 across the country.
Toksöz highlighted their efforts to institutionalize traditional archery globally and work toward making it an Olympic discipline. He also mentioned the positive impact of sports facilities on local communities, citing the example of an archery center established in a disadvantaged neighborhood in Kütahya, where crime rates reportedly dropped by 70%. "We plan to open similar facilities in different cities to reach more young people and promote the growth of this sport," he added.
