The 5th World Nomad Games will be held in Kazakhstan

The 5th edition of the World Nomad Games, hosted by different countries every two years, will be held in the capital Astana between September 8-14 this year. The games, the 4th of which took place in Iznik district of Bursa in 2022 with the support of the World Ethnosport Confederation, is the largest organization where traditional sports are performed.

 

Countdown ceremony held in Astana

With the countdown ceremony held in Astana, the first step was taken for the 5th World Nomad Games. The ceremony held at the EXPO International Expo Center was attended by Kazakhstan Parliament Speaker Yerlan Kosanov, President of the World Ethnosport Confederation Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, Kazakhstan Minister of Tourism and Sports Ermek Marjikpayev, Astana Governor Jenis Kasımbek, President of the Kazakhstan Ethnosport Union Islambek Salcanov.

Erdoğan and Kosanov started the countdown to the 5th World Nomad Games by unveiling the 2-meter signboard with the symbol of the traditional game of the Turkic peoples, aşık. The first ticket of the Games was presented to Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, President of the World Ethnosport Confederation.

At the ceremony, Kosanov said that the World Nomad Games has become an important competition not only for Turkic states but also for the whole world.

Noting that they support the 5th World Nomad Games to be hosted by Kazakhstan, Erdoğan said, "The World Nomad Games is not only a sporting event, but also has a critical importance in terms of preserving, promoting and transferring different cultures and traditions to future generations."

 

Memorandum of cooperation signed

After the ceremony, Erdogan, together with other guests, visited an exhibition of traditional handicrafts and watched a concert celebrating the Nowruz holiday. Later, Erdoğan also visited the Organizing Center of the 5th World Nomad Games in Astana. A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the World Ethnosport Confederation and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan.

4 thousand athletes from 100 different countries are expected to participate in the 5th World Nomad Games. Athletes will compete in 20 different traditional sports branches for a week.
