Kökbörü is one of the historical and national sports of the Turks. Even today, one of the most important equestrian sports of Turkestan Turks, köbörü is a mounted sport like javelin. Its principle is to release the horse, run and snatch the goat, take it through the opponent's castle, and earn a point. Kökbörü game originates in Turkestan, and has been a competition sport that mounted warriors played in peace time to keep themselves fit.

Today, it is played in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Afghanistan. The game is still played in its most natural form and, when watched, gives the feeling of a complete war game.
